Going on Holiday? Tips to Protect Your Property When You're Away
Who doesn’t look forward to summer holidays - a chance to get away from it all and partake in some real rest and relaxation?
But there are other fans of the summer months - burglars who suddenly see a bounty in all the vacated properties. So if you’re planning to go away this summer, here are Absolute Security’s top tips.
1. Remove temptation that can be seen from outside your property. Hide or lock away your visible valuables.
2. Check your alarm and/or security system is working properly and don’t forget to turn it on when you leave. Let neighbours have a contact number for you - just in case the alarm is activated when you are away.
3. Arrange for someone to remove any obvious build up of post. If you have anything delivered regularly, such as milk, cancel it before you go. If someone is coming in to keep an eye on your house whilst you are away, make sure they know how to activate the security alarm system. And don’t forget to tell neighbours who this person is (especially if you’re in a neighbourhood watch area).
4. Leave a car in the drive and invest in timer switches for lights, which give the impression you are in when you’re out.
5. Lock all side gates. Burglars love properties with easy exit routes. Make sure yours poses a real obstacle course for them.
