We are often invited to tender for large projects and back in 2020, we were asked to carry out a design proposal to upgrade the fire alarm system at Wycombe Abbey school. Unfortunately, we didn’t win the tender on this occasion. But little did we know, this was only the beginning of the story.
Fast forward two years and Wycombe Abbey got back in touch with us. Having chosen someone else to install the fire alarm and perhaps prioritising price over a solutions-based service, the school was disappointed to find that the chosen contractor was unable to complete the task to the necessary standards.
They asked us if we could re-evaluate and reprice the project, picking it up from where it was left. We were happy to do so. We installed a new fire alarm system across the entire site to their complete satisfaction.
Security system design specialists
Having seen the quality of our service and the true value we offered, the school then approached us to design and specify an upgrade to their CCTV system, utilising their existing network. We were happy to oblige – our expertise in security goes beyond installing, commissioning and maintaining security systems, we are also certified security system design experts.
However, this request was far from simple with a demanding set of criteria. Because of the sheer scale of the grounds – a 15-minute drive from one side of the site to another – installing a CCTV system wasn’t a simple task. They would need 81 cameras and a hard-wired server-based Avigilon VMS based system to ensure we exceeded their requirements and provided room for expansion.
After taking their full brief and understanding the operational requirements, we were able to design a fully integrated system that accounted for fire, security, safeguarding and property protection. Crucially, this proposal met their satisfaction.
Working with specialist sub-contractors
The work to create a site-wide network needed a lot of heavy groundwork – something that we don’t have the capabilities to do in-house. So, we called in one of our trusted subcontractors – a specialist groundwork contractor to entrench the fibre-optic cables around the expansive site.
The current phase of installation works is now complete, with hopefully more to come. We can now move onto the equally important service and support package that we have also secured with the client.
